Discovery Islands Lodge is owned and operated by Coast Mountain Expeditions, a family-run kayak adventure company.

As islanders and bio-regionalists, we are committed to supporting our local economy and protecting the wilderness environment of Vancouver Island and Quadra Island, this place we call home. We employ qualified local people.

Since 1987 we have offered a variety of sea kayaking experiences for all ages and abilities.

Relaxing and fun, our kayaking tours also focus on developing skills and self-confidence.

A quarter century of island living and organizing kayaking tours has given us a wealth of familiarity and respect for the extraordinary environment we inhabit. We take great pleasure in sharing our remote Quadra island lifestyle and the natural beauty of our home here at the edge of the mountains!

Besides a wonderful holiday experience, we hope our guests will leave with inspiration to help preserve wild places and resolve to live more gently on the planet.

Our Quadra Island Kayak Lodge

Situated on Quadra Island, near Vancouver Island, Discovery Islands Lodge, is a newly renovated traditional coastal building. We began reconstruction in 2001 using timber from a Quadra Island woodlot milled by a small local sawmill.

Discovery Islands Lodge offers “elegant-rustic” kayak accommodation in a spectacular wilderness waterfront setting.

We have bedrooms for up to 18 people, and a comfortable upstairs living room for everyone to enjoy. The kitchen with propane appliances is located adjacent to the common room, available for guests who wish to prepare their own meals.

Discovery Islands Lodge is accessed by a well-maintained gravel road, but our location is in a remote part of Quadra Island 30 minutes drive from the nearest serviced community at Heriot Bay.

We generate most of our own power from renewable sources (solar and wind) and have adequate but limited electricity.

Because of our situation, we do not offer all amenities.
